SAN LUIS REY
MISSION INDIAN
FOUNDATION
The San Luis Rey Mission Indian Foundation (SLRMIF) is a community-based organization focused on the preservation, enhancement and celebration of Native American culture in the Southern California area. The mission is to ensure the historic preservation and cultural resource enhancement and awareness of the Luiseño peoples, or Payómkawichum (People of the West). The foundation is affiliated with the San Luis Rey Band of Mission Indians, whose traditional territory consists of Camp Pendleton, the cities of Oceanside, Carlsbad, Vista, San Marcos, Escondido and the unincorporated communities of Fallbrook and Bonsall.
The foundation implements its mission through a variety of educational programs, cultural projects and environmental conservancy efforts. On behalf of the Tribe, the foundation strives for public awareness of the current vitality of native culture and peoples with the signature celebration, the Intertribal Pow Wow on the grounds of the historical Old Mission San Luis Rey. Such events promote the importance of SLR’s history and future as a conservancy land steward throughout North San Diego County.
The San Luis Rey Mission Indian Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization
